1Trainees undergoing Basic HD Production training

On 14 November 2011, 21 media employers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and Singapore Media Academy (SMA) to build a pipeline of skilled talent for the media industry. These media employers will send their staff for Creative Industries WSQ (CI WSQ) training according to their talent development and upgrading objectives. The CI WSQ courses offered are in the areas of Broadcast Journalism, Film & TV Production and Directing, Cinematography, Camera, Sound and Lighting Operations, Editing, Sales & Media Marketing, Writing and Strategy Planning, and were developed closely by WDA and SMA.

2HD Lighting training in progress

SMA is the Continuing Education and Training (CET) Centre for the media industry. CET Centres are public training providers that offer a comprehensive list of Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) courses, and also provide employment advisory and job placement.

3Trainees go on-site to experience Broadcast Journalism

To keep up with the evolving media sector, three new WSQ Full Qualification Programmes, namely WSQ Diploma in Film and TV (Production), WSQ Diploma in Film and TV (Script Writing) and WSQ Specialist Diploma in Interactive Media (Business Management), will be launched by late 2012. These programmes will be offered in bite-size modules to cater to busy media professionals under the Skills Training for Excellence Programme (STEP), which help Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs) to update their skills, knowledge and expertise so that they can remain competitive and employable. Furthermore, graduates of these courses will be eligible for the CET Qualification Award (CQA) of S$1,000! CQAs are beneficial to those seeking career change or looking for a career progression, and are applicable to Singapore Citizens who successfully attain a WSQ Certificate or Diploma for the first time.

4Trainees attending the Post Production class

The media sector is fast advancing forward with the support of strong media-related programmes. If you are interested and believe you have what it takes to craft a career in this industry, jump on now and give it a try.
