7 October 2011 saw the groundbreaking ceremony for the new National Continuing Education and Training (CET) Campus West, which will be named after Mr Devan Nair, founding Secretary-General of the labour movement in Singapore and a former president of Singapore.
The CET Campus West is situated in the Jurong Lake District, a convenient location easily accessible by public transport networks. For a start, a variety of training programmes will be offered, such as Digital Animation, Media, Early Childhood Care & Education, Healthcare, Human Resource, Landscape and Workplace Safety and Health.
CET Masterplan
This marks an important milestone in our quest to equip the Singapore workforce with the skills for job opportunities in new growth industries under the CET Masterplan, where the Ministry of Manpower and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) had announced a plan in 2009 to build two CET campuses that can train up to 50,000 workers annually.
The other CET campus will be built in Paya Lebar Central. It will be managed by WDA and will offer skills training programmes under Tourism, Hospitality, Food and Beverage (F&B), Retail, Security and Aerospace.
Both campuses will offer horizontal training programmes such as Employability Skills, Service Excellence, Generic Manufacturing and Productivity, as well as short quality CET programmes such as master-classes, professional development programmes and workshops delivered by renowned and international practitioners.
When both campuses are completed in 2013, Singapore’s workforce will be able to look forward to the two campuses as a one stop destination for skills training and career opportunities.
